What is Coaching?
Coaching is a proven and structured way of helping you take your life forward in the direction you desire to go. It is not teaching, counselling or therapy.
Key features of good coaching:
- ONE-ON-ONE. The relationship between you and your coach is tailored to your needs and goals.
- FACILITATIVE. Your coach’s role is a supportive one, helping you in the processes involved in working towards your outcomes.
- OUTCOME-ORIENTED. You determine the goals or outcomes of the coaching. The role of the coach is to help you formulate your aims in such a way that they have every chance of being realised, and to help you stay focused until they are achieved.
Coaching is not:
- INTENDED TO BE CORRECTIVE OR THERAPEUTIC. Coaching is not aimed at exploring past events or issues, or uncovering motivation or psychological processes. It is future-focused, not past-probing.
- INSTRUCTIONAL. A coach will not teach you specific skills or give you loads of facts or information.

What is The Difference Between Coaching & NLP Coaching?
Simply put, NLP. Your NLP Coach has a wider knowledge base and more behavioural flexibility – in a manner of speaking, more tools in his/her toolbox – which means increased options for you, and in turn, more chance of you getting to where you want to go faster and easier.
NLP coaching involves:
- A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN YOU & YOUR COACH. The relationship between you and your NLP coach – as in all good NLP work – is mutual, a working alliance aimed at helping you achieve what you want.
- BEING ATTENTIVE. Meaning that you take yourself, your aims, your experience and unconscious resourcefulness seriously. This may mean setting aside regular slots of time for some, while for others it may mean giving themselves quality time and their best attention without urgency or distraction. Being attentive means that your coach thinks carefully about what ideas, processes and strategies you might find helpful, and presents them in an easily understandable way.
- A FACILITATIVE WAY OF WORKING. Whatever it is that you want to achieve is what your coach takes seriously. He/she will help you explore your processes to find out how you go about things, to discover and amplify your strengths and work on your limitations.
- OUTCOME-FOCUSED. Ask yourself: What do I want? Having identified that, your coach will help you formulate your goals so they have every chance of being realised.
- BASED ON THE ASSUMPTIONS THAT YOU HAVE ALL THE RESOURCES YOU NEED. Your coach believes that you already possess all the resources that are required for achieving your goals and that these can be accessed, even though you may not yet know what they are. NLP Coaching honours the individual. Excellent helpers respect the resourcefulness of those they work with and, by doing so, obtain far better results. As you begin to use these tools and strategies, your own resourcefulness will surprise you!
- CUSTOMISED TO YOUR NEEDS. NLP coaching focuses on the unique individual: all help offered relates specifically to you. All tools and strategies are adaptable to your needs and your way of working.
- NON-JUDGEMENTAL. NLP Coaching does not operates within a blame/ reward structure or a success/failure pattern even when your way of thinking/ behaving is less effective than you’d like, it isn’t wrong. Virtually all strategies work in some situations and less well in others. The art of NLP Coaching is to help you become more aware of what those are, so that you have more choice and can become effective more often.
- SUPPORTIVE. Your NLP Coach encourages you rather than telling you what to do or how to do it. There are no shoulds in NLP Coaching, although there are plenty of strategies and skills. Experimenting with these, and paying attention to what works for you, is a habit NLP coaches nurture, one which develops your confidence and your independence in managing your life.
In addition, your NLP Coach assists you to:
- KEEP YOU TO YOUR OWN AGENDA.This helps you keep your goals freshly in mind and draw your attention to wanderings or a loss of focus. You are in the driver’s seat – and that means power and responsibility. NLP Coaching helps keep you attentive to your own aims and ensures that you monitor how you are doing in relation to them. The aims, agenda, and pace of work in relation to them, are yours to determine.
- WORK WITHIN A CURIOSITY FRAME.When we ask questions we get more information, and this gives us more to work with. The key questions to ask are ones that provide detail you can use. They provide a level of detail about internal and external events that allow you to find what needs to change – or stay the same – and where the most effective interventions can be made.
- BREAK DOWN LARGER, LONGER-TERM GOALS INTO SMALLER, SHORTER-TERM ACHIEVABLE STEPS.Often, you can have a clear goal in mind and not know how to begin working towards it: or you may be overwhelmed and even despondent at how far away the goal seems from where you are now. By breaking down the overall goal into its component steps, NLP Coaching gives you practical, do-able ways of working towards it – and a series of successful experiences on the way that increase your motivation and sense of empowerment.
- INCREASE YOUR AWARENESS OF WHAT’S HAPPENING HERE-&-NOW.You’ll also be more aware of how this contributes to the mainten-ance or change of ongoing patterns or the development of new ones. Greater awareness gives you access to more information that is potentially available to you, and that may be key to the structure of your difficulties or your successes.
- REALISE THAT CHANGE CAN BE CUMULATIVE.This is a very important assumption, because it allows you to discover how big changes or achievements can actually be made through small actions, one step at a time. Yes, sometimes change can be big and dramatic, but often you may just want to make those changes bit by bit. NLP Coaching helps you discover the specific ways that work for you.
- KNOW THAT YOU CAN ENGAGE IN LIFELONG LEARNING, PROVIDED YOU WANT TO.The more you know about how you work, the more you can choose to do more of what works for you, and the more you learn about how to change what doesn’t.
- WORK WITH PROCESSES AND STRUCTURE, NOT CONTENT.We respect the importance of your content to you, however. If you want to make changes, you need to do it at the level that drives the experience – the level of process. If you want to succeed here you need to know the structures that hold these processes in place.

Who Is NLP Coaching For?
CEOs, Directors, Leaders, Senior Managers, Line Managers, Executives, Sales Professionals, HR Personnel…
In fact, just about anyone wanting to maximise performance (personally and/or professionally), enhance communication and coaching skills, obtain and maintain balance in their life, and get more results – with less time and effort.
NLP Coaching has proven to speed up the success of those who have been newly promoted by helping them to develop their skills and abilities faster and more effectively.
Business Owners and Entrepreneurs who desire sharpening leadership and influencing skills, developing rapport with clients and colleagues, and ultimately creating more business leading to increased profits.
NLP Coaching has also proven to be considerably financially beneficial. Professionals who use quality NLP coaches are often far more effective at what they do and can command higher fees as a result.
A coach has expertise in the process of defining, working toward and achieving goals, but not necessarily in the specific area of content you are concerned about.
In fact, it can often help coaching to stay focused if we don’t know too much. Where you need more information, it will become evident through the process of coaching itself, and you will be helped to identify what needs to be done to gain it.
In this way, in contrast to the ‘command and control’ model of learning or support, the process of coaching also helps you become more resourceful and independent.

NLP provides detailed and understandable descriptions of how you – and others – do what they do. It explains how your mind makes meaning out of your experience and thinks of it as ‘reality’. It offers you a way to understand the patterns involved in communication, so that you increase your ability to work more effectively with yourself and others.

- Janet Spencer, Philip Morris Int’l, Sales Executive

I have used many ‘coaches’ and have been to many trainings in my singing career. None has come close to providing me with the kind of useful, practical help NLP offers. Owen is now my full time coach and I attend any NLP training I can whenever I can. It’s changed my life. I am now achieving outcomes I had never even conceived of before!
- Warwick Harte, Musician

I was approached by an Engineering Company to give a Workshop on "Presentation & Communication Skills". As a qualified Practitioner of NLP, I started to piece together my Workshop. However, I still felt that there was something missing. I approached Owen Pardue to assist me in developing this Workshop. Having spent a day being coached and trained, I can honestly say that Owen is an excellent Coach & Trainer and with his help, I designed a Workshop that was "Better than the Best". So much so, that I was asked back again to do some more work. I would like to say: Thank you, Owen you have an excellent talent, and you obviously love what you do.
- Mary Curran, Managing Director, Centre for Professional & Personal Development

I was having difficulties in getting my new business up and running when I availed of the services of an NLP Coach from NLP. Suffice it to say, my business is now up and running… and growing successfully. If I were ever to go through big changes again - or was being held back by perceived time limitations, fear, limiting beliefs, or lack of resources… I know who I’m going to call.
